METSouth Founders in Philly

The founders of the METSouth Charter School Initiative, Jeff Wilson and Justin Howell, were in Philadelphia for the past week to work with the founder and Executive Director of Big Picture Philadelphia, David Bromley. The idea was to bring together these two Big Picture organizations in order to learn and share the unique challenges that each group has faced as well as ways to move forward in bringing this exciting, unique educational experience to the students of Atlanta and Philadelphia. The week of meetings included topics ranging from facilities and development to the curriculum approach of the MET/Big Picture model.

METSouth now plans on traveling in the next few weeks to MET/Big Picture schools in: Oakland, Providence, and the Bronx. This is in order to be a part of the major milestones of hiring, pre-planning within the schools themselves, meetings between advisers and their students and parents, and the crucial first week of school. METSouth will use the opportunity to learn from others in the national Big Picture network before doing this ourselves prior to our August 10, 2009 opening date. STAY TUNED!!!
